Henderson Turton has been elected president of the Taekwondo Association of Barbados (TAB), and will be leading a fresh administration over the next four years. Turton defeated Anthony Williams, immediate past president, during an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) on January 27 to become the ninth elected head of the organisation since its establishment in 1986.
The purpose of the EGM – election notwithstanding – was to bring members up to date with the financial status of the organisation and to ratify club memberships outstanding since 2015. The EGM was held at the Barbados Olympic Centre, and saw observance by the NOC’s representative, Glyne Clarke, manager of Olympic Operations.
Clarke congratulated the newly elected board and urged that they always “…continue to put the sport first.” He assured that the Barbados Olympic Association was there to assist, and encouraged the federation to make use of that support.
The newly elected president has set as an immediate focus: the tidying of the national federation’s governance; updating and clearly defining the body’s strategy and moving to execution; heightened visibility for the sport and activity of Barbados’ Taekwondo, locally and at a regional and international level.
Also on his agenda will be fully engaging TAB’s stakeholders and addressing the needs and interests of the country’s clubs, coaches and athletes. This, he said, would be of paramount importance. Enhanced training for continuity and succession in all areas of development is critical for the organisation to survive another thirty-plus years and the president indicated his commitment to this.
The new executive council comprises three women and three men. They are:

Vice-president – Dr. Leo Brewster Ph.D
Secretary General – Mr. Ogeji Dottin
Treasurer – Ms. Tessha Myers BSc. Hons, CPA, FCA

2nd Floor Member – Ms. Renée Best
